Georgia Foreclosure Rate 4th in Nation

Georgia remained among the states hardest hit by the nation’s foreclosure crisis with the fourth-highest rate of foreclosure filings last month, though it saw a slight drop from January.

Statewide, 12,356 properties had foreclosure filings -- including default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions -- in February, RealtyTrac reported Thursday. That’s one in every 331 homes, compared with one in every 637 nationally.
Filings in February fell 0.89 percent from the previous month and marked a 3.52 percent drop from a year ago, according to the California-based firm, an online marketplace for foreclosure properties.

2012 Gwinnett County Repulican Convention

The Gwinnett County Republican Party will hold its 2012 Convention on Saturday, March 10th, 2012 at Central Gwinnett High School, 564 West Crogan Street in Lawrenceville for the purpose of electing delegates and alternates to the 4th, 7th and 10th District Conventions and the Georgia GOP State Convention. Below is some helpful information on the convention.


How do I become a delegate to the Convention?

Delegates and alternates were elected by precinct at February’s Mass Meetings. If you were elected as a delegate or alternate, you should have received a letter from Chairman Bruce LeVell.

If I’m not a delegate or alternate, can I still attend the convention?

The convention is open to the public. Guests must pay a $20 registration fee to attend.

Where exactly is the convention?
The convention is in the Central Gwinnett High School Auditorium. You should enter the school’s parking lot from the Crogan Street entrance just south of the school buildings. (Look for the GOP Event signs). Once you have parked, the auditorium is the building on your left as you face the school.

What time should I get there, and what should I bring?
We will begin registration at 8:30 AM. Anyone in line to register by 10:00 AM will be allowed to participate in the convention, however we strongly advise attendees to arrive and register early so we can begin the convention on time.
 You should bring your registration letter, some form of proper ID, and the $30 registration fee.

Can I pay the registration fee online?
Glad you asked. You can save time at registration by prepaying the registration fee at this link. You will be able to pre-pay until 8 PM on Friday.

Where should I sit?
Seating at the convention will be by Congressional District. From the back of the auditorium, seating for the 4th district will be on the right, the 7th district will sit in the center, and the 10th district will sit on the left. In addition, delegates will sit in front, while alternates will be seated behind delegates. Guests will sit is a marked off area on the left. Please look for signs telling you where to sit. They will be taped to the end seats on each row.

Will there be any special guests at the convention?

Yes, we expect 7th District Congressman Rob Woodall will address the convention at 10 AM, and Senator Johnny Isakson will speak at approximately 11:00. As time allows, we may have other candidates and elected officials speak.

I’m hungry. Will there be any refreshments?

The Conservative Republican Women of North Atlanta will be selling refreshments; however,   food and drink cannot be brought into the auditorium. We ask that you enjoy your refreshments outside, in the courtyard to the right of the auditorium building.

The President presented his FY2013 Budget Proposal this week, and now it is up to Congress to craft its own.  As a Member of the House Budget Committee, my colleagues and I have already begun the process of developing a budget plan that fosters a stable and secure economic future for Americans.  This is a critical decision-making time for which it is imperative that you, the constituents of the Seventh District, be involved.  We must continue to meet and share concerns, criticisms, and ideas alike in order to move forward in a direction in which America can be proud.  As such, I hope you'll join me at the GJAC next Tuesday, February 21, at 7:00PM for my next Town Hall Meeting.

Romney Wins New Hamshire

The New Hampshire 2012 Presidential Preference Primary was held on Tuesday, January 10th. The results of the Republican ballot are as follows:

The race for the Republican Presidential Nomination now heads to South Carolina for it's primary on January 21st and Florida for it's primary on January 31. The Nevada Caucuses are on February 4th. GA GOP Mornng Report

Today’s Big Thing: Tonight, eight of the Republican Presidential Candidates will take the stage at the Reagan Library in California for the next in a series of 2012 GOP Debates. The debate is slated to begin at 8:00pm ET, and can be watched on MSNBC or live online at POLITICO.  

Nationally, the American people are cautiously awaiting President Obama’s Joint Address to Congress on Thursday evening. While the exact measures to be proposed during his “jobs” speech are yet to be seen, it is almost certain that the President will call for substantial spending ‘stimulus’ to spur our economic recovery (sound familiar?). It seems that either way, this will be too little, too late for Mr. Obama, who seems more concerned with his re-election figures than our nation’s economic well-being.

The Republican National Committee released a web video this morning as a preface to tomorrow night’s national address entitled “Sound Familiar?” Says the RNC: Same words, same speeches, same filed policies. It’s time to change direction and defeat Barack Obama in 2012. Watch the video here.

GA GOP Mornng Report

Today, Georgia’s House & Senate Redistricting Committees will convene to begin discussion and deliberation on the other chamber’s respective redistricting map. If approved by the committees, the maps will head to the House & Senate floor for full debate and, barring any setbacks, will then land on Governor Deal’s desk to be signed into law.

Also, it is expected that the proposed Congressional map will be released at some point this week – possibly as early as today. For updates as they become available, visit the Legislative and Congressional Reapportionment Office here.

GAGOP – Morning Report

Today’s Big Thing: Yesterday, the proposed state House & Senate maps in Georgia cleared the first major hurdle when they were approved by the respective redistricting committees. Debate will return to the chamber floors in the General Assembly today. Also today, President Obama wraps up his three-day, three-state bus tour that went “coincidentally” through three of our nation’s electoral battleground states. While the White House continues to paint this trip as official Presidential business, the calls are coming louder than ever that the President is “campaigning from behind a taxpayer-funded presidential seal.”

As the bus tour wraps up and President Obama prepares to gallivant in Martha’s Vineyard for 10 days, the American public can’t help but question the priorities of the Campaigner-in-Chief.

Today’s Big Thing: This morning at 10:00am, the Georgia General Assembly will officially reconvene to begin this year’s special legislative session to address redistricting. Already on Friday, the first drafts of the Georgia House & Senate maps were released. In case you missed it, the maps can be viewed here.

The Georgia General Assembly will be providing live video from both chambers, and can be watched by all at http://www.legis.ga.gov/Streaming/en-US/Both.aspx.

On Saturday, the first GAGOP Local Party & Precinct Training was held in Gwinnett County. We had a great turnout; there is a lot to be excited about in the Republican Party in Georgia. Special thanks go out to GAGOP 7^th District Chairman Jason Thompson, Gwinnett GOP Chairman Bruce LeVell and our friend Chet Hale for their hard work and leadership. Finally, President Obama will begin a three-day Midwest Bus Tour today in Minnesota, which will also visit Illinois and Iowa. The RNC has dubbed this taxpayer-funded trip as “Obama’s Debt-End Bus Tour” and released a counter-video this morning.

They Said It: State Representative Debbie Buckner (D - Junction City) on the proposed changes to her state House district: “It’s a district that I feel like I can be successful running in, and I go through that part of Meriwether and Harris County back and forth to Atlanta, so I feel like I can take care of the folks.”

It seems as if Democratic House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams’ threats to her caucus have fallen upon deaf ears.
