5,000 Illegal Aliens deported from GA.

Georgia ranks sixth among states for the number of illegal immigrants deported through a federal fingerprint-sharing program now used in jails across the country, public records show.

Since the Secure Communities program started here in November of 2009, 5,044 noncitizens have been deported or have voluntarily left the United States, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement figures.

Nearly half – 1,968 -- involved people booked into Gwinnett County’s jail.That is more than twice the total in any other Georgia county.

Gwinnett Place Mall’s Future Uncertain

The nation’s largest mall owner has given up on Gwinnett Place Mall in Duluth. But some in the community think that could be the best thing to happen to the property.

Once considered a community gem, Gwinnett Place has lost national retailers and has been unable to compete against Mall of Georgia to the north as the county’s premiere shopping destination.

Georgia Foreclosure Rate 4th in Nation

Georgia remained among the states hardest hit by the nation’s foreclosure crisis with the fourth-highest rate of foreclosure filings last month, though it saw a slight drop from January.

Statewide, 12,356 properties had foreclosure filings -- including default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions -- in February, RealtyTrac reported Thursday. That’s one in every 331 homes, compared with one in every 637 nationally.
Filings in February fell 0.89 percent from the previous month and marked a 3.52 percent drop from a year ago, according to the California-based firm, an online marketplace for foreclosure properties.

2012 Gwinnett County Repulican Convention

The Gwinnett County Republican Party will hold its 2012 Convention on Saturday, March 10th, 2012 at Central Gwinnett High School, 564 West Crogan Street in Lawrenceville for the purpose of electing delegates and alternates to the 4th, 7th and 10th District Conventions and the Georgia GOP State Convention. Below is some helpful information on the convention.


How do I become a delegate to the Convention?

Delegates and alternates were elected by precinct at February’s Mass Meetings. If you were elected as a delegate or alternate, you should have received a letter from Chairman Bruce LeVell.

If I’m not a delegate or alternate, can I still attend the convention?

The convention is open to the public. Guests must pay a $20 registration fee to attend.

Where exactly is the convention?
The convention is in the Central Gwinnett High School Auditorium. You should enter the school’s parking lot from the Crogan Street entrance just south of the school buildings. (Look for the GOP Event signs). Once you have parked, the auditorium is the building on your left as you face the school.

What time should I get there, and what should I bring?
We will begin registration at 8:30 AM. Anyone in line to register by 10:00 AM will be allowed to participate in the convention, however we strongly advise attendees to arrive and register early so we can begin the convention on time.
 You should bring your registration letter, some form of proper ID, and the $30 registration fee.

Can I pay the registration fee online?
Glad you asked. You can save time at registration by prepaying the registration fee at this link. You will be able to pre-pay until 8 PM on Friday.

Where should I sit?
Seating at the convention will be by Congressional District. From the back of the auditorium, seating for the 4th district will be on the right, the 7th district will sit in the center, and the 10th district will sit on the left. In addition, delegates will sit in front, while alternates will be seated behind delegates. Guests will sit is a marked off area on the left. Please look for signs telling you where to sit. They will be taped to the end seats on each row.

Will there be any special guests at the convention?

Yes, we expect 7th District Congressman Rob Woodall will address the convention at 10 AM, and Senator Johnny Isakson will speak at approximately 11:00. As time allows, we may have other candidates and elected officials speak.

I’m hungry. Will there be any refreshments?

The Conservative Republican Women of North Atlanta will be selling refreshments; however,   food and drink cannot be brought into the auditorium. We ask that you enjoy your refreshments outside, in the courtyard to the right of the auditorium building.

Tom Kirby Wins District 107

Tom Kirby won the District 107 race over Paul Smith, 51.7 to 48.3 percent of the 6,708 total votes cast. In Walton County, Kirby captured 54.69 percent to Smith's 45.31 percent of the 2,604 votes cast. In Gwinnett County Kirby won 50.32 percent to Smith's 49.68 percent of  the 3785 votes cast.

Newt Gingrich wins Georgia Presidental Primary

"Super Tuesday" came and went in Georgia yesterday, and when the dust settled, the unofficial results were as follows:

Newt Gingrich: 47.2% (424,853)

Mitt Romney: 25.9% (233,175)

Rick Santorum: 19.6% (176,029)

Ron Paul: 6.6% (58,961)

The final allocation of Georgia’s 76 Delegates is still being calculated, with Speaker Gingrich, Governor Romney and Senator Santorum all expecting to receive a portion of our state’s delegation. Over 900,000 Georgians voted on the Republican ballot (compared to just 138,000 for Obama), giving the Republicans a large majority of motivated voters in this year’s election cycle.

Presidential Primary is Today: Please Vote

Georgia has the largest number of delegates up for grabs today. Below is a message from the GAGOP Playbook.

 Today, Georgians will take to the polls to voice their preferences for our Party’s 2012 presidential nominee. As the largest state casting votes on Super Tuesday with 76 Delegates (and 4^th largest in the Nation!), all eyes will be focused on the Peach State throughout the day today.
