Dear Friends,
In the week that has passed since Election Day, our Party – both here in Georgia and nationally – has had the opportunity to reflect on what worked, what didn’t and where we are going to go from here. Self-assessment, while not always an easy process, will guide our Party forward into 2014 and beyond and is something that we have embraced here at Georgia GOP.
As I wrote last week, Election Day was indeed a successful day for the Republican Party in Georgia. Along with casting more votes for Mitt Romney than any presidential candidate has ever garnered in our state (and the most East of the Mississippi in 2012), we also grew our majorities in both chambers under the Gold Dome, defended our congressional and statewide majorities and did not lose a single incumbent on the federal or state level. In addition, we saw our Party grow substantially on the local level, electing more sheriffs, county commissioners and district attorneys than ever before.
In 2014, the stakes will once again be high here in the Peach State. Senator Saxby Chambliss will be up for reelection, as will the vast majority of our statewide office holders, including Governor Nathan Deal, Attorney General Sam Olens, Secretary of State Brian Kemp and all other constitutional officers. As such, the next few months will be not only a time for reflection, but also for preparation.
That preparation begins with the 2013 Georgia Republican Party Convention Cycle. Starting with the Mass Precinct Meetings in February and continuing through the 2013 State Convention in Athens, this cycle will be vital to the future of our Party. We will be electing leadership atop every District and County GOP Organization, and will ultimately elect my successor here at the State Party. In order for our team to carry on the successes of the past decade, we must continue to elect leaders that will carry our Party to new and great heights.
Please mark your calendar for these important upcoming dates in the 2013 GAGOP Convention Cycle:
February 9, 2013 - Mass Precinct Meetings
March 9, 2013 – County Conventions
April 20, 2013 – District Conventions
May 17-18, 2013 – GAGOP State Convention (Athens, GA)

Arrival in Tampa for the 2012 Republican Convention

Vanessa Green, Gloria Tow, Kathy Statham, Judy Bailey, Rachel Little and Mary Adamski arrived safely in Tampa this afternoon.  The weather is beautiful so far.  We are expecting to have some ripple effects from Hurricane Issac.  The RNC has canceled most events for Monday's opening day.  Most of the RNC events have been moved to Tuesday.  The big welcome event/concert is still on schedule; as well as, all GA GOP events.

We have talked with many of the locals today and we were delighted that they all are rooting for Mitt Romney and the Republicans. We met a really interesting couple at dinner.  They were in their mid-eighties and have been married 66 years.  They can't wait to vote for Romney and move the this country in another direction.

Vanessa, Gloria, Kathy and Judy are spending this night at SpringHill Suites.  We were greeted in the lobby by a large number of  police officers from around the state of Florida.  They have been planning and training for this event since last January.  We feel very safe and secure.

GAGOP Chairman Everhart Statement on Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker’s Recall Election Victory

ATLANTA– This evening, Georgia Republican Party Chairman Sue P. Everhart released the following statement regarding Governor Scott Walker’s decisive victory in Wisconsin’s recall election:

“I would like to personally congratulate Governor Scott Walker on his victory in today’s gubernatorial recall election in Wisconsin. The voice of the Badger State was heard loud and clear at the polls: Governor Walker’s stellar record of job creation, tax reduction and bold reform has truly changed the way that Wisconsin does business, and voters have taken notice.

“From Georgia to Wisconsin, Republican Governors continue to champion pro-jobs policies, while simultaneously growing the economy and shrinking the size of government through common-sense reforms. As we move forward towards November and beyond, it is my sincere hope that our Party continues to elect strong, bold leaders in the likeness of Governor Walker from the top of the ticket to the very bottom.”

Today's news from GAGOP Presidential Preference Primary Date Set

Secretary of State Brian Kemp announced yesterday that Georgia’s Republican Presidential Preference Primary will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2012. Also known as “Super Tuesday,” Georgia will join at least 10 other states across the country to hold what will be one of the largest and most vital days of the entire GOP primary process. Also, in accordance with the rules of the RNC, Georgia’s 76 delegates will be allotted proportionately to the candidates based on votes garnered in the primary election. Release: Georgia Republican Party Chairman Everhart Statement on Georgia’s Presidential Preference Primary  Nearly two weeks after President Obama sent his $450 billion jobs bill to Congress with the inspiring message “Pass this Bill,” Mr. Obama has still failed to rally up enough support for the measure – in his own Party. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) conceded this week that the Senate Democrats do not have enough votes to pass the President’s bill, even though they hold the majority in the chamber.

GAGOP Playbook – Morning Report

Today’s Big Thing: For the first time since 1923, a Republican will represent New York’s 9^th Congressional District in the United States Congress. This seat, as you may remember, once belonged to then-Representative Anthony Weiner, and was an 11 point victory for Barack Obama in 2008.

In electing Republican Bob Turner, the people of New York sent an unmistakable rebuke to President Obama. This election was a referendum on the President and his failed policies, and is yet another sign pointing towards a sound defeat of the Democrats in 2012.

From the Associated Press & NPR: “It sounded improbable on the surface that a New York City congressional district where Democrats have a 3-1 registration edge and have held office for nearly a century could even come close to electing a Republican to the U.S. House. But voter frustration over the sour economy and President Barack Obama's policies made the improbable a reality… and portends a perilous national environment for Obama as he prepares to seek re-election next year.”

The Republican candidate in another special election, this one for Nevada’s 2^nd Congressional District, also won last night by a substantial margin.

In other news, Georgia’s Representative Hank “Guam” Johnson has announced that he will sponsor the “Full Faith & Credit Act,” a piece of legislation that will seek to eliminate the federal debt ceiling. This is not only reckless, but could also imperil our nation’s credit by giving the President & Congress a limitless taxpayer-funded spending spree. While the debt ceiling may be inconvenient for the Democrats as they attempt to run our nations deficit to unforeseen heights, it is a safeguard that we simply cannot do without. Meanwhile, when it rains, it pours for Barack Obama as his disapproval rating reaches a new high of 55% and his economic disapproval rating rises even higher to 62%.

Quote of the Day: Representative-elect Bob Turner: "We've been asked by the people of this district to send a message to Washington. I hope they hear it loud and clear. We've been told this is a referendum. Mr. President, we are on the wrong track. We have had it with an irresponsible fiscal policy which endangers the entire economy."
