House Narrowly Rejects Charter School Constitutional Amendment; Expected to Vote Again

From The Center for an Educated Georgia
at GA Family Council:

On Wednesday, the Georgia House failed to pass House Resolution 1162, the charter school constitutional amendment. 110 representatives voted in favor of the resolution while 62 representatives opposed it. Constitutional amendments require 120 votes (2/3 of the chamber) to pass. The 110 supporters consisted of 101 Republicans, 8 Democrats, and 1 Independent. 52 Democrats and 10 Republicans voted against the resolution.

Today the House passed a motion to reconsider the resolution, 114-49. The chamber can now bring the resolution up for a new vote at any time.

Passing the resolution requires 10 more votes. It is essential that you call your representative and ask them to support HR 1162.

If your representative voted "Yes," thank them for their support. If they voted "No," encourage your representative to support the amendment and protect the future of public charter schools in Georgia.
